The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is deciding against going through with a planned salmon release in Bodega Bay. The decision not to release a quarter-million hatchery-born Chinook comes after several North Bay conservation groups asked the agency to first conduct an environmental review. The release aimed to provide a boost to fishery stocks when the juvenile smolts matured in three years. The fleet in Bodega Bay has been hard-hit by recent lean fishing years.
