The first public forum on homelessness was held in Santa Rosa last night. Speakers talked about several issues that play a part in the increasing problem, including the amount of resources available, and the mental health of many on the streets. Officials want to make sure the community knows what resources are available. Many believe in the “Housing First” approach: get the homeless sheltered first, and then work on keeping them off the streets for good. Santa Rosa officials are looking for input as they try to put together a cohesive plan to battle this issue. More forums will be held in the coming weeks.
