New data is indicating that SMART ridership is falling short of weekday expectations but exceeding weekend predictions. Data released yesterday from the agency’s first full month of operations in September saw ridership averaging about 25-hundred daily passengers, short of set targets of three thousand. Meanwhile, weekend ridership was in the two thousand range, well above targets of 300 when the system runs fewer trains and trips. Given the higher-than-expected weekend ridership, SMART may add another train on weekends.
