Around 800-thousand students in California are now eligible to receive free and reduced priced meals while at school.  Sandip Kaur with the California Department of Education said a more streamlined and automated application process is in place that allows more students to receive the meals. That new process eliminates the need for families to fill out applications, reduces administrative tasks to verify and process the applications, and identifies eligible students at a faster rate.  The system also aims to increase the number of students who receive healthy meals on a daily basis.
