Grants are available for homeowners to retrofit their older home to make them more resistant to earthquake damage. Janiele Maffei with the California Earthquake Authority says the Earthquake Brace and Bolt Program is offering grants of up to three-thousand-dollars.

“The grants are for qualifying houses. The house needs to have been constructed before 1979, have a continuous concrete foundation, have a crawl space, and be owner occupied.”

The grant money can be used to bolt a house to its foundation and add bracing around its perimeter. Through February 23rd, eligible homeowners can apply for retrofit funding at EarthquakeBraceBolt.com.
