Meals on Wheels, the organization that brings food to seniors, is recruiting a new generation of volunteers in California. CEO Ellie Hollander says the campaign, “America, Let’s Do Lunch,” aims to keep the wheels turning for decades to come.
In California, nearly 16 percent of seniors are struggling with hunger, 21 percent of seniors are living in isolation, and almost 30 percent are living in or near poverty. Hollander says the population of seniors is expected to double by 2050 and the organization is in need of younger volunteers to donate their time.
