Appeal Underway to Overturn a California Judge’s Decision to Strike Down State’s Assisted Suicide Law

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is appealing a court ruling overturning the state’s assisted suicide law. In an appeal filed yesterday, Becerra questioned last week’s ruling by a Riverside judge, arguing the law enacted during a special session should stand. The 2015 law allows doctors to prescribe lethal drugs to patients with six months or less to live. Becerra asked that the court keep the law in place during the appeals process.
