Lawmakers are expected to approve a more than 138-billion dollar state budget that includes over 500-million to help the homeless. Included in the budget plan that is expected to be approved tomorrow is more than double the amount of spending on the homeless that was in Governor Brown’s May revised budget. The additional funds will be used to fund various programs, including emergency shelters and rent-relief for low income people. About 25 percent of the nation’s homeless population live in California, which amounts to over 130-thousand people.
