Mike McKowen from the Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign says many of us miss the critical signs that someone needs help.

The Blue Campaign spreads education, awareness and training across the nation to help eradicate the commercial sex industry. The National Human Trafficking Hotline says California had over 13-hundred cases of human trafficking in 2016. In Orange County, authorities rescued nearly 300 victims in 2016, which was a 26-percent increase from the previous year. McKowen says trafficking can be found anywhere, it doesn’t discriminate between gender, age, or community size. For the victims of sex trafficking, 34 is the average age of death and homicide is the leading cause.
