Three bills recently signed by Governor Jerry Brown are expected to make a significant impact on plastic waste. Mark Murray, Executive Director of Californians Against Waste, says single-use plastic has disastrous consequences.

AB 1884 made California the first state to officially limit the distribution of straws at restaurants. SB 1335 requires state facilities like parks, beaches, colleges and fairgrounds to have recyclable or compostable takeout food packaging. SB 1236 takes plastic reduction even further by directing the California Ocean Protection Council to conduct a statewide study on plastic particles that make it past water filtration systems.
