The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced its 2019 work plan and the river didn’t get approved for dredging, something that hasn’t been done for the Petaluma River for 15 years causing the river to become muddy and a silt-choked slough. The Petaluma Argus Courier says that the Corps is supposed to dredge the upper Petaluma River every four years, and the mouth where it meets the bay every three years. The Army Corps of Engineers point to funding and how valuable ports are to the national economy.
