A new statewide DUI law is going into effect in hopes of saving lives.  California Assemblymember Todd Gloria says SB 1046 will make it harder for people under the influence to get behind the wheel.

The DUI prevention law is now in effect.  The ignition interlock device connects to a breathalyzer and will prevent a car from starting if a convicted drunk driver is intoxicated.  First time offenders who don’t cause injuries can choose six months of the ignition interlock or a restricted license for one year.  Others are required to have it for at least one year.  Governor Brown signed the bill in 2016.
