A new state law requiring transparency from police departments is shining light on the reason two central California cops were fired. Seaside Police Chief Abdul Pridgen says the community has the right to know why an officer is taken off the force.

This month, it was revealed that two separate Watsonville officers were fired after being accused of having sex multiple times on duty and in uniform. KQED reports Jose Barerra was fired in 2014 for having at least nine sexual encounters and John Espinosa was fired in 2017 for at least six incidents of misconduct. They both resigned after trying to appeal the firings and neither were criminally charged because all parties were consenting adults.
