This Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019 photo from video by Joel Keeler shows vehicles buried in the parking lot of the snowed-in Montecito Sequoia Lodge in Kings Canyon National Park in California's Sierra Nevada. More than 120 visitors and staff who became snowbound in the Sierra Nevada resort for five days have been freed. The U.S. Forest Service says snow trapped the guests and staff at the lodge starting Sunday following a storm. They couldn't get out until Thursday night, Feb. 7, 2019. (Joel Keeler via AP)

Just in time for President’s weekend. Heavy snow is impacting traffic on Interstate 80 in the Sierra. CalTrans announced a hard closure last night due to whiteout conditions on the Summit and too many spin outs. Eastbound traffic was being turned around at Colfax and westbound traffic at the Nevada state line. There is no word on when it might reopen. The National Weather Service says the Sierra will see another major snow event into the weekend. Forecasters say mountain travel will be difficult and is not advised. Light snow down to 15-hundred-feet is possible Saturday night.
