Oakland teachers are expected to be on the picket lines this morning.
Oakland Education Association President Keith Brown says the strike is happening due to concerns over pay, the high cost of living, and over-sized classrooms. The union did reject a contract proposal from Oakland Unified School District officials yesterday but are planning to re-start negotiations on Friday. The school district is promising to keep schools open today with temporary teachers.
