Residents in the heart of Wine Country are being asked to remove their grape
crops this year, all in an effort to combat the invasive European grapevine
moth. The request covers backyard and hobby farmers, not winery vineyards.
Napa county is requesting help from all residential growers, while Sonoma county
is currently asking only growers who live within a thousand yards of traps that
have caught one of the moths. A quarantine is in effect for many areas in
Sonoma county due to the pest. For those who do not want to cut their fruit,
homeowners can spray an approved pesticide.
