Fellow Soldier Seeks Justice for #MarineHeldInMexico

A Mexican federal judge sent Andrew Tahmooressi back to prison after the U.S. Marine sergeant made his first official courtroom appearance since being locked up more than three months ago for accidentally crossing the border with guns in his pickup truck. The 26-year-old veteran of two tours in Afghanistan was finally able to tell his story to a judge, after his case had been delayed by both Mexico's unpredictable legal system and his own trouble settling on a lawyer. Joining us to discuss the issue is Andrew Bartholomew, who served with Sgt. Tahmooressi in Afghanistan.

Unions Hit But Not Fatally

Public Sector unions have taken a hit, but not a fatal one with yesterday's Supreme Court decision signaling a distaste for state laws requiring public sector workers to pay union dues. VA Hospital Workers Claim Retaliation for Blowing Whistle on the Horrors They Saw

When Valerie Riviello, a nurse at a Veterans Affairs facility in New York, saw the clinic restrain a sexual assault survivor to a bed for seven consecutive hours, she released the woman.

The next day, Ms. Riviello said, she was removed from her post as senior nurse manager and given a full-time desk job that prohibited her from contact with patients. She eventually was reprimanded and is facing a 30-day unpaid suspension for releasing the woman.

Now, Ms. Riviello is one of more than 50 whistleblowers who say the Veterans Affairs Department retaliated against them for trying to do their jobs.

Boehner Wants to Sue Obama, Pelosi Wants Boehner to Grow Up

Speaker John A. Boehner said Wednesday that the House will vote later this year on whether to sue President Obama to try to force him to adhere more strictly to the law, in what could shape up as a major constitutional clash.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, said that Mr. Boehner is only pursuing the lawsuit to look like Congress is doing something and hopes he takes the more mature approach to drop the lawsuit.

Santa Rosa Strikes Labor Deal

After more than a year of negotiations, Santa Rosa has tentatively struck new labor contracts providing raises to about 220 workers but also requiring them to pay more toward their pensions.

The deals will cost an additional $1.1 million over the life of the contracts, which still must be approved by the City Council. Santa Rosa City Manager Kathy Millison joins us to explain the situation.

Americans' Opinion of Iraq War

A rising number of Americans think the war in Iraq was not worth fighting.

A poll released Tuesday shows that 71 percent of those surveyed think the war in Iraq “wasn’t worth it,” while only 22 percent believe that the war was worth the effort. Gregg Birnbaum of Politico.com joined us this morning to discuss the situation.
