A wish every 40 minutes, I’m Tom Simoneau with today’s wine minute here to say The Make-A-Wish Foundation contacted me last spring and asked if I would donate a wine class at a Make-A-Wish Auction at Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards. Make-A-Wish grants wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions. Nearly 200,000 children’s wishes have been granted. I signed up and we held our class last week. The afternoon began with a toast, a tour, some hors d’oeuvres, then down to business. 8 people, 6 wines poured blind, and great comments. At these classes, I always learn something. How about a new rating system? I would drink and buy; I would drink, but wouldn’t buy; and I wouldn’t drink nor buy. The top 3 wines were: #3 Robert Young 2004 Scion, #2 Chateau St. Jean 2005 Cinq Cepages, and #1 Swanson 2006 Alexis. A great time was had by all and the best part? We helped make a wish come true.
