Strike Up the Band

6/24/2012

Strike up the band, pack the picnic, it’s the 4th of July! I’m Tom Simoneau with today’s wine minute here to say whether you’re off to the beach or hanging out by the pool, don’t forget the SPF 30 and a bottle or two of wine. When it’s hot, why not drink what’s hot, Rosé. One of the best is the Valley of the Moon 2011 Rosato Di Sangiovese with raspberry, watermelon, and light citrus, 4½ wine stains, $16. And for those BBQ’d baby back ribs look to America’s heritage grape – Zinfandel. The Lake Sonoma Winery 2009 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel is a full flavored Zin that can handle a slight chill, serve at cellar temperature, 60 degrees. The Lake Sonoma Zin shows spicy with black pepper, raspberry fruit, and cedar spice. Made for BBQ’s, 4 wine stains, $19.00. This weekend stay cool, be sure to BBQ, and keep that corkscrew handy!
