Party at Gloria Ferrer

7/11/2012

These guys know how to throw a party! I’m Tom Simoneau with today’s wine minute here talking about the upcoming Catalan Festival at Gloria Ferrer. Gloria Ferrer, established in 1982, was the first sparkling winery in the Carneros. Its owners, the Ferrer family, built their reputation as a Spanish Cava producer with their label Freixenet (Fresh-en-net). The label Freixenet is named after the Ferrer family’s first homestead, La Freixeneda, which is Catalan for ash tree grove. The weekend of July 21st and 22nd Gloria Ferrer Champagne Caves is celebrating summer and its heritage with the 20th Annual Catalan Festival. If you like paella, wine, and Flamenco music and dancing, be there. Oh, and did I mention the 15 feet tall Gegants? Tickets will sell out. Click on gloriaferrer.com.  Look for the Gloria Ferrer 2008 Carneros Pinot Noir, a cherry, raspberry, and brown spice of a wine, 4 wine stains, $22.  See you at the Catalan Festival.
