Time for poolside wines, I’m Tom Simoneau with today’s wine minute here to say with Memorial Day coming up put away your trophy wines, forget about those aged Cabernets and break out the “fabulous quaffers”! When was the last time you had a glass of Chenin Blanc? Dry Creek Vineyards’ new Chenin is begging for potato salad and barbecued chicken. And, how about a Rosé? Remember Lancers and Mateus? You liked them, didn’t you? Well check out Carol Shelton’s Rendezvous Rosé or Kelley and Young’s Kathleen Rosé both light and fruity, perfect with hotdogs and hamburgers. And if there ever was a holiday made for White Zinfandel, Memorial Day is it! If you like a fruity White Zin, try the Beringer or Sutter Home. Feeling adventurous? Try a Rhone style Rosé on the dry side, the Vin Gris from Preston of Dry Creek, or Quivira’s Rosé are head turners. Now all you’ll need is plenty of ice, SPF 15 sunscreen, and good company. Happy Memorial Day everyone.
