Today, two big reds for those hot summer night barbeques, I’m Tom Simoneau with today’s wine minute here to say I don’t know about you, but just because it’s hot doesn’t mean I’m not drinking red wines. I serve it with a slight chill. Don’t break the bank with some high priced reserve or with some 90+ point something or other. Here are two recommendations for anything from burgers to porterhouse steaks. These wines are widely available and often discounted. Look for the Kenwood Vineyards 2009 California Vintage Red Wine. Medium in body with soft red berry flavors, this Zinfandel based wine is spicy with soft tannin, 3½ wine stains, a best buy at $9. And the J. Lohr 2010 Seven Oaks, Paso Robles, Cabernet Sauvignon is juicy and mouth filling showing rich flavors of plum, blueberry, and cherry, all finishing with medium tannin, 4 wine stains, $17 list. It’s hot! So what… fire up the BBQ and pour yourself a glass of red wine.
