Are you willing to pay $30 for a bottle of wine with a screw cap? I’m Tom Simoneau with today’s wine minute here to say it’s a fact. The world supply of quality cork is running out. Wineries are already experimenting with synthetic look a like cork. It is just a matter of time when cork will be a fond memory. Did I say “fond”? How many of us have had a few words with a cork we finally extracted from our favorite bottle of wine? Is there an alternative? Yes, the best wine closure is a well-made screw cap. No problems with tainted cork or leakage. It’s just a better closure. I’m not saying we need to do away with cork wine stoppers today but, if a screw cap is better than cork, then what’s the problem? We all have to stop and decide are we willing to pay $30 for a bottle of wine with a screw cap? I am. Are You?
