President-elect Donald Trump will nominate former Texas Governor Rick Perry as Energy Secretary. CBS and NBC News report Trump picked the twice-unsuccessful candidate for the Republican presidential nomination over West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin and Dallas oil and gas investor Ray Washburne. When Perry ran for president in 2012, he said he wanted to eliminate the Energy Department.
