Local politicians and environmentalists are concerned that a Congressional hearing could impact the Sonoma County coastline.  The House Subcommittee on Water, Power and Oceans hearing today could be a precursor to legislation that would abolish federal laws that protect 350 miles of California’s coast from offshore oil development.  The current laws also protect natural resources and habitats and over 600-thousand miles of ocean.  Representative Jared Huffman, Democrat from San Rafael, and a former environmental attorney, says there’s nothing to prevent Congress and Donald Trump from removing properties from the list of sanctuaries or marine monuments.
