Santa Rosa police are stepping up patrols with a special bike and pedestrian safety operation on Friday. Officers will be out in force looking for violations by drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in an effort to combat injuries and deaths. Special attention will be paid to drivers who speed, ignore stop signs or signals, and fail to yield to pedestrians. Police will also be on the lookout for people on foot who cross the street illegally and other violations. Tickets will be issued as well to bicyclists who ignore the same traffic laws that apply to drivers.
