Novato is getting a half-million-dollar grant to build a SMART train stop downtown. Marin Supervisor Damon Connolly says the grant from the Transit Performance Initiative has a lot of environmental and economic benefits. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission will provide another million dollars for the stop. The “Marin Independent Journal” reports more than a quarter of Novato’s population lives within a mile of the downtown stop and 30-percent of the city’s jobs are in that area.
