Berkeley is tweaking its laws to give city officials more power to handle unauthorized demonstrations.  The city council approved an emergency ordinance late last week giving the city manager power to issue rules for street demonstrations that don’t have a permit.  This comes ahead of a so-called “No to Marxism” rally announced for Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park next Sunday afternoon.  Mayor Jesse Arreguin says his office will hold events opposing racism and bigotry in other parts of the city on Sunday.
