Four California state lawmakers are set to introduce a bill to prohibit utility companies from passing wildfire costs onto customers. In a statement released yesterday, Senators Jerry Hill, Mike McGuire and Scott Wiener, along with Assemblyman Marc Levine called the practice of passing fines, penalties and other costs onto ratepayers when their power lines cause wildfires “an outrage.” The four Democrats said they will introduce their bill when the Legislature convenes in early January. The cause of the North Bay fires that killed 43, destroyed close to nine-thousand homes and buildings and burned about 250-thousand acres remains under investigation.
