The sixth and seventh consecutive Winter Spare the Air days have been declared for today and tomorrow in the Bay Area. Local air quality officials say all wood burning is banned unless a fireplace or wood stove is the only heat source for the home. Violators face a 100-dollar fine for a first offense or they have the option of taking a wood smoke awareness class. A second offense is a 500-dollar fine. Stagnant and unhealthy air quality continues this week with no rain in the forecast until late next week.
