The Santa Rosa City Council is set to consider an immediate ban on evictions while the post-fire state of emergency remains in effect. City leaders will discuss the proposal tonight in light of at least 15 low-income people receiving 90-day eviction notices following the recent fires. Landlords appear to be kicking out residents for no other reason than to capitalize on increased demand for rental property in the city. The proposed ordinance would bar landlords from evicting residents for anything other than ten approved reasons, which include nonpayment or violating the rental agreement.
