It’s now legal to buy recreational marijuana in California.  Doors swung open yesterday morning at dispensaries across the state for people 21 and up looking to buy pot. There are a few caveats for users: they’ll only be able to possess an ounce of pot, you are allowed to have six plants at home, and people are not allowed to smoke pot in public. SB 94 prohibits driving with an “open container of cannabis or loose cannabis flower” and anyone caught driving and smoking a joint will face a DUI. Marijuana advocates, such as NORML, support the laws, saying that edible cannabis can be especially dangerous to drivers, as its effects can be delayed by hours. One major California city which doesn’t have any pot shops at the moment is Los Angeles, which has seen its application process stall. At least three dispensaries are selling recreational marijuana in Sonoma County.
