36 congressmen, including Congressmen Jared Huffman and Mike Thompson of the North Bay, have sent a letter to the interior secretary urging him to remove California from the new offshore drilling plan. The letter calls on Secretary Ryan Zinke to exempt California under the same criteria that was used to remove Florida from the plan. The plan stems from President Donald Trump’s America First Energy Strategy opening all of the countries’ coastal waters to offshore drilling. Secretary Zinke is planning 47 potential sales of oil drilling rights with 6 of them along the California Coast.
