New home under construction with wood, trusses and supplies against blue sky
A potential labor shortage is threatening to slow progress on plans to rebuild homes in Coffey Park. The first sign of a new home being built in the fire-ravaged Santa Rosa neighborhood was seen yesterday, prompting Coffey Strong’s board president to label it a “beacon of light for the community.” But Bay Area home builder Denova’s announcement last week that it couldn’t hire enough subcontractors could put work on at least 75 more homes on hold. Meanwhile, insurers are required to cover homeowners for living expenses and rebuilding for only two years, but a bill introduced in Sacramento is hoping to change that.
