Wildfire funding from the federal government is welcome news to Californians.

According to CalFire Deputy Director Mike Mohler, they have wanted a federal wildfire funding solution because the routine practice of borrowing from funds intended for management of forests and public and lands isn’t sustainable.  Mohler added the federal budget should reflect the reality of fire risk, the costs of fire suppression and the unprecedented tree mortality across the state.  U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue reported last September that wild land fire suppression costs for the fiscal year exceeded two-billion-dollars, making it the most expensive year on record.
