Scientists are now planning a necropsy to determine how the endangered animal died. The Marine Mammal Center and the California Academy of Sciences are working on a plan to determine the cause of death of one of the world’s largest animals, which was first spotted Saturday floating in the water a few miles from the Farallon Islands. Officials with the Marine Mammal Center say they have responded to eight incidents of whales found dead on Bay Area beaches so far this year.
