Plans to build an asphalt plant along the Petaluma River south of the city are still on hold. Lisa McCann with the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board says more study is needed:

The plant was first proposed in 2004, and the Sonoma County Board Of Supervisors finally approved the project in 2010. Meanwhile, the city of Petaluma spent over 100-thousand dollars opposing construction of the plant before losing a 2015 court battle.
