Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Ron Helus will be laid to rest today. A memorial service will be held at noon. Helus was the first to enter the Borderline Bar and Grill last week when a gunman opened fire, killing Helus, eleven others and then himself. Helus was a 29-year department veteran with plans of retiring next year, and leaves behind a wife and a son.
