A tie vote by the Santa Rosa Planning Commission is putting a spotlight on rebuilding wildfire-damaged areas. The Commission voted three-to-three with one abstention last night, which effectively blocks a proposed Residence Inn Hotel by Marriott on land just north of the Hilton and Fountaingrove Inn that both burned down in last October’s Tubbs Fire. Commissioner Vicki Duggan said she voted no because tourists and business travelers not familiar with the area would be placed in extra danger in the event of a future firestorm. The Marriott developers already plan to appeal to the City Council, which is expected to trigger a larger discussion of the issue.
