Tonight will be the longest of the night of the year. Because of Winter Solstice, today will be just nine hours and 53 minutes long. Sunset begins early, at about 5:23pm. For the first time in years, a full moon will accompany the solstice. The December full moon is called the Cold Moon, and will be its fullest on Saturday night. According to NASA, the Cold Moon is not expected to coincide with the solstice again until 2094. The annual Ursid meteor shower will also peak tonight and tomorrow. It’s the first time in eight years the meteor shower has coincided with the full moon.
