A new state law is banning the sale of mill-bred pets in California pet stores.  Social Compassion in Legislation founder and sponsor of AB 485 Judie Mancuso says the law saves thousands of animals from euthanasia.

The Pet Rescue and Adoption Act, went into effect yesterday and eliminates the trafficking of mill-bred dogs, cats and rabbits into the Golden State.  Long Beach Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell says taxpayers pay over 250-million-dollars annually to house and euthanize animals in state shelters.  It’s still legal for California residents to independently buy from mill-breeders, but animal advocates warn of inhumane conditions, chronic illnesses and diseases in these pets.
