Judge Rules Rohnert Park Police Must Provide Officer Training for Probation Searches

A federal judge has ruled that the Rohnert Park Police Department must provide training for it’s officers when it comes to probation searches. The ruling stems from a 2014 case, when officers descended upon the Barajas home searching for an adult son who wasn’t home. A gun was drawn in that incident. The family said officers did not have the right to search the parent’s home without a warrant. Alexis Amezcua, one of the attorneys representing the parents:

The family had already been awarded damages after a jury trial. Elva and Raul Barajas were represented pro bono by Morrison & Foerster attorneys Arturo Gonzalez, Alexis Amezcua, Caitlin Blythe, and Mallory Morales.
