CENTER STAGE: “The Scion” Written and Performed by Brian Copeland at the Cloverdale Performing Arts Center

Center Stage, a celebration of performing arts in Sonoma County, brought to you by the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University.

Following last year’s sold-out performance of “Not a Genuine Black Man,” Brian Copeland returns with another fascinating one-man show.  With “The Scion” Copeland tells the true story of fellow San Leandro resident, Stuart Alexander, who murdered three government meat inspectors when they attempted to inspect his Santos Linguisa Factory in June 2000.  Using court records, police reports and the testimony of Alexander’s family and friends, Copeland uses the case as a microscope to examine the roles of privilege, government regulation and racial profiling in 21st century America.  Copeland’s riveting performance walks the line between comic and tragic as he tells how a lifetime of wealth and privilege created a man who believed he was entitled to murder anyone in his way.
