A California-based non-profit looking to raise funds to fight childhood cancer is pleased President Donald Trump wants to focus on curing the disease. St. Baldrick’s Foundation Senior Director for Government Affairs and Advocacy Danielle Leach says the President’s announcement during last week’s State of the Union was a wonderful surprise.

Leach’s son died in 2007 from the disease. She says the group is investing in research to find new cancer treatments for kids. Leach believes it is important to talk about childhood cancer because of how many kids it claims each year. It will be up to Congress to decide how the President’s request will be handled.
