The Santa Rosa City Council today is slated to discuss turning the former Bennett Valley Senior Center into a short-term navigation center and shelter for the homeless. The senior center shut its doors last August after the council opted to consolidate senior services to the Steele Lane Community Center. The temporary move of about 40 beds for the homeless is designed to allow crews to repair the roof of the Samuel L. Jones Hall homeless shelter. If approved, the navigation center would be expanded to include temporary buildings in the parking lot that would provide as many as 20 additional beds by fall.
