The Oakland Education Association is claiming the school district is not being honest with the public about its budget situation.

Union Second Vice President Chaz Garcia told reporters yesterday the union was grateful State Superintendent Tony Thurman was in town to help with negotiations. Oakland Unified School District is still working on securing a new contract with the union. Demonstrators are planning to march around 11:30 a.m. after morning picket lines at all schools. Teachers have been striking for better pay and smaller classrooms since last Thursday.
