Joe Faraoni / ESPN Images(NEW YORK) — Connor McGregor announced on Twitter early Tuesday that he is retiring from mixed martial arts.

“Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as ‘Mixed Martial Art’ today,” the Ultimate Fighting Championship star tweeted. “I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition. I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement. Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!”

In a text, UFC President Dana White told ESPN he believes McGregor’s announcement is legitimate.

“He has the money to retire, and his [Proper 12] whiskey is KILLIN it,” White texted. “It totally makes sense. If I was him, I would retire too. He’s retiring from fighting. Not from working. The whiskey will keep him busy, and I’m sure he has other things he’s working on.”

This isn’t the first time McGregor, 30, has announced he’s retiring from the sport. He did so back in 2016, tweeting, “I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya’s later.”

The fighter was back in the Octagon a month later.
