Sacramento’s Third “Birthquake” in Four Years

More on the story of the labor and delivery unit of a Sacramento hospital as they prepare for what they’re calling a “birthquake.” Ten nurses at Sutter Medical Center are pregnant and four other nurses in the unit have given birth since January. Nurse Juliya Romanyuk says she’s grateful to share the experience with her coworkers.

Three of the expecting mothers share the same due date, June 4th, and another woman could go into labor any day now. While many may worry about the staff leaving for maternity leave, the nurses say they’re being surrounded by support in management. It’s not the first time the hospital has seen a baby boom. Thirteen nurses in the same unit were pregnant at the same time in 2016, another 13 nurses were expecting in 2017 and nine were expecting together last year.
