Anyone who uses well water in the Santa Rosa Plain may need to start paying fees soon.

The board for the newly created Santa Rosa Plain Groundwater Sustainability Agency will meet today to discuss fees for residents, ranchers and businesses who use well water in the area. Rural residents who use solely well water could pay $8 to $13 a year while larger water users could be charged $16 to $26 per acre-foot. The proposed fees would cover the agency’s annual operating costs of $337,000.
