California drivers will soon pay more at the pumps and a state GOP senator is blaming Democrats. At the state capitol, Senator Jeff Stone of Riverside County is warning drivers about the increase of a gas tax.
Senator Stone says thanks to Senate Bill One, Californians will pay more for gas than drivers in any other state. He says the bill will hurt Californians who are already struggling to keep up with the state’s high cost of living. In the Senate, 35 Republicans voted against the gas tax while 80 Democrats voted in favor of it. The tax is meant to generate funding for roadways, including up to $1.5 billion per year allocated directly to counties and cities for local road maintenance, safety improvements and complete street improvements.
